We LOVE fall, just the sound of autumn leaves crunching beneath our feet sweeps us back to memories of sipping cider and carving pumpkins. With fall comes the promise of colder weather, rainier days and winter’s gloom. As cheery as the season is, the to-do list can get longer and more daunting. So we’ve simplified it for you! Don’t let the chores get in the way of having a little bit of autumn fun this season.
America’s TOP Home Warranty Company’s Autumn To-Do List:
Make Apple Cider
As you sip of spicy or sweet cider this autumn, be sure to clean leaves from your downspouts and rain gutters. Wear a long sleeve shirt and gloves, use a small shovel or gutter scoop to clean out the leaves and debris from your gutters. Climbing a ladder can be frightening and intimidating. Hiring someone to do the job for you can cost around $50-$250, depending on the dimensions of your house.
Go To A Football Game
Cheer on your favorite teams as they vie for the championships. Don’t forget to check your chimney and roof for cracks or damage. Notice some cracks? A little inexpensive maintenance can go a long way. You can increase the life of your chimney significantly by simply sealing the bricks, the crown and adding a chimney cap.
Enjoy A Campfire
Cozy up with a fire, roast the marshmallows and gaze at the stars. Don’t forget to drain sediment from your water heater to ensure maximum lifespan of this important appliance! Over time, sand, grit and other minerals can compile in your water heater causing a reduced amount of water your heater can hold. This is especially important, as the build up can harden and sometimes clog the drain valve! Full instructions on how to clean out your water heater can be found here.
Try Pumpkin Flavored Everything
From coffee to yogurt and cookies, and just about anything in between, get your mouth on something pumpkin flavored! Schedule a furnace tune up, before its too cold! This is the easy part, because Freedom Home Warranty makes the process a cinch. Simply request service on our website, and mention that you need a tuneup. Play In The Fallen Leaves
While you’re outside raking up your next pile of leaves, clear away debris from your outside HVAC unit. Follow these five easy steps to have your unit ready for winter’s welcome.
•Turn off the power- First of all, always begin by shutting off the power to the condenser unit.
•Vacuum away leaves and debris- Use a soft brush attachment because the exterior fins can be fragile and easily bent.
•Straighten fins- If you do find some bent fins, they can easily be straightened out by gentle pressure from a dinner knife or a special comb from the appliance parts store.
•Remove the fan- To access the interior of the condenser, you’ll need to remove the fan. While it can’t be removed completely because of wiring, but the wires will give you enough leeway to vacuum debris from the inside.
•Clean the Fins- Direct moderate water pressure from your hose nozzle to the fins from the inside out. Once you’re satisfied, reinstall the fan.
